Tips for DSL Customers using a Router:

  1. The router must be setup for PPPoE operation. See the XP Setup Guide for the correct user name and password to use.

  2. All settings should be obtained from the server whenever possible.

  3. Leave Service Name field blank, if available.

  4. Use Keep-alive, not Connect on Demand, if such option is available.

  5. If you are connected but have problem browsing, reduce the MTU to 1412. Routers that do not provide MTU setting (eg. SMC7004ABR) cannot be supported and should be replaced.
